Sexual Orientation Edit

Bento Edit

Of all the races, none are more black-and-white regarding sexual orientation than the Bento. Their society is built on very strict rules regarding all areas of social conduct, and sexuality is no exception; heterosexuality is a must. Any other relationships could not conceivably result in children, which is the very reason their arrangement of marriage exists. While it's doubtless there are non-heterosexual Bento scattered around, they would be extremely unwilling to speak up about it, and never come forward to practice it.

Hespero Edit

While the various castes of the race take on the matter with some variation, as a standard the Hespero are rather accepting of homo- and bisexuality. It is not "wrong", but rather still "abnormal". While one will not be persecuted against for any non-heterosexual activities, it is still preferred you take a partner of the opposite sex, simply because it makes things a lot more simple and normal. Despite this rather "could care less" stance on sexual orientation, the non-heterosexual community in Tor is still a rather "closested" and private one.

Feline Edit

The Feline races are very much like the Hespero in beliefs and practice regarding sexual orientation; homosexuality's accepted as just another way of living out your life, but it's still not the norm, and not the preferred way of doing things.

Lutras Edit

Their race being so short-lived and young to the world, non-heterosexuality has simply just not come up yet. Whether or not it will or will not happen is unknown, but how they would react to the concept would be down to the individual, as their own society has no rules or conduct regarding. Some would be fascinated by the concept, while others would be confused or even disgusted.

Pryconian Edit

Pryconian culture is very strict and law-based - even the more chaotic Fire Cult parts of their society haven't broken off far enough that they've shed all their old traditions and rules. There's nothing calling homosexuality wrong or strange; pretty much everyone had accepted it's going to happen here and there. But, they still believe that non-hetero relationships are just not how things are supposed to work. Some take it as far as discrimination against gays, while others simply just live-and-let-live.

Sa'ern Edit

Owing to the fact that their entire race is of a single gender, and neither male nor female, the concept of orientation is rather lost on the Sa'ern, not to mention a moot point. In some cases individuals may still exhibit a predominantly "masculine" or "feminine" personality; however, this does not affect how they choose a sexual or romantic partner.

Seaborn Edit

Even moreso than Sa'ern, Seaborn cannot have any sort of sexual orientation. Not only do they have no genders or any sort of gender identity, they do not even reproduce in any conventional sense. The closest thing they have to sexual orientation is whatever information regarding the topic the One has accumulated over the years.

Ye'en Edit

While Bento are strict in sexuality, on the other end of the scale Ye'en are very live-and-let-live when it comes to sexual orientation: non-heterosexuality is no more strange to them than heterosexuality. In fact, most Ye'en, when they come of age, experiment to see what sort of orientation is that in which they feel most comfortable.

Lutras Edit

Lutras choose a mate very carefully, never jumping into a relationship flippantly. When they have chosen someone, and the feelings are reciprocated, the two agree to become mates; there is no official way of going about this, no ceremony or way of showing it, but simply an unspoken agreement and bond. It is only with their partner that they mate, and the act is usually a very private matter. Additionally, while single partners are the norm, a Lutras has been known to take more than one mate, so long as their existing partner agrees to it. This, however, is extremely rare, and while there is no official taboo against it, most wouldn't agree with the idea.

Seaborn Edit

Seaborn do not have sex, or even have genders. Every few years, the One splits off a new Seaborn, which wanders the world and later returns to be reabsorbed into One's collective intelligence.

Ye'en Edit

Just as the Ye'en have very few taboos regarding sexual orientation, they have likewise few taboos about sexual conduct: so long they keep their (most intimate) activities out of sight, and mated Ye'en stay faithful to their mates, they are largely free to have sex how they want. The only consistent restriction on pre-marital sex is that the participants be of consenting age, and the only consistent restriction on multiple-partner and same-sex relationships is that all partners know of and are accepting of the other partner's or partners' activities. Despite this apparently lax approach, most Ye'en take a mate fairly early in adulthood and remain with only that mate for life.
